Andrew Waye's Sydney 1/2 marathon
Story
Up at 4:30 for a 6:20 start at Milsons Point (just near Luna Park). A simply glorious day....if anything, probably a little too balmy. I was reminded just how grand life is, running in the middle lane of the Sydney harbour bridge as the sun rose!
For those interested, my official time was 1:50:41 (over 21.1km). Here is the link to my official result - http://tiktok.biz/sydneyrunningfestival/2011/00736 & the official photo's:
My time was about 10 minutes slower than my target time of 100 minutes. But the conditions on the day were pretty damn tough. I also had to nurse my accumulated niggles. The left foot being held together by strapping tape and the right calf with a persistent niggle. That said, I'm glad to have finished and delivered on the commitment that I made to you (and also grateful that I could walk after). And with the time, I'll always have the challenge to beat it next year!
I’d like to thank everyone who provided their moral support in the lead up. I have been really humbled by that. And, I’d particularly like to thank those who supported my nominated charity for this run, the Black Dog Institute. I am also so glad to have achieved my personal target of at least $700.
You might be interested to know that Team Black Dog, of which I'm a part of the fundraising effort, has already raised over $34k so far. Now the run is complete, this figure is climbing rapidly. That places Team Black Dog at 3rd overall in fundraising, which is just fantastic. That is a great, timely, result as this week is:
EXERCISE YOUR MOOD WEEK – 12 TO 18 SEPTEMBER 2011
You can read more by following this link: http://www.blackdoginstitute.org.au/
Of course, the Black Dog Institute would be very grateful happy to receive any further donations. All donations above $2 are tax deductable. It's a great cause to be associated with.
Thank you for your support and helping to make a difference!
Thanks heaps and cheers
Andrew

Black Dog Institute
One in five Australians are affected by mental illness each year.
Mental illness can be overwhelming, crippling and isolating.
The Black Dog Institute is a not-for-profit organisation and world leader in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mental illness such as depression, bipolar disorder and suicide.
We are the only mental health facility in Australia that combines clinical services, high quality translational research and education programs. We work to empower communities and help the stigma surrounding mental illness.
The Black Dog Institute has 4 important goals:
to diagnose mental illness accurately and early,
treat them using innovative, effective and accessible strategies,
prevent their onset by understanding why and who they affect
to reduce the overall impact of mental illness and save lives.
Black Dog Institute’s vision is for a mentally healthier world.
A world where the onset of depression and suicide can be prevented and treated. With your help we can make this vision a reality.
