Julie's Marathon for Black Dog Institute

As some of you know, I have entered in the Sydney Marathon, in order to raise funds and awareness for The Black Dog Institute. A charity that provides excellent support for people with Depression and Bipolar Disorder. An issue that is very close to the heart of many of us.

Many of you are aware that I am not just doing this for charity and myself, but to honour the memory of a very special person, Ben Webster, who lost his battle with depression late last year. Ben successfully ran this event last year in an amazing time, with minimal training.

On Sunday, September 18, I will be doing my best to complete the 42km course over the Harbour Bridge, around Sydney's CBD, Centennial Park and finishing at the Opera House steps.

I have spent the last couple of months training, adding a small distance to my regime on a weekly basis, with the ultimate goal of the Marathon in September. So far, I have to say, that as someone who is not a natural runner - it has not been easy! So please don't hesitate to pop me an email or a call to check how the training is going, or even better, come for a run with me! Even if it's just for part of my run.

I hope not only to raise money, but further develop awareness around depression and also the support services that the Black Dog Institute provides for people who directly suffer or are affected by depression and bipolar disorder.

Please pass this message on to anyone who will also be keen to contribute - and support awareness for depression.

Welcome to the Black Dog Institute Fundraising Page!

Depression impacts one in five Australians.
According to the World Health Organisation (W.H.O.) depression will be the number one cause of disability by 2030.

Currently Black Dog Institute services are only available in NSW. Funds raised from the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival will allow us to carry out more research into effective diagnosis, treatment and early intervention of mood disorders as well as be able to expand our services nationally.

Join the Black Dog Institute Fundraising Page and be part of something special.
Last year was a great effort and as we raised $70,000! Together, let's try and raise even more this year and try to hit $100,000!
